Islamabad: Peshawar Zalmi ended their long wait for a championship by defeating Hyderabad Kingsmen by five wickets in the final of the Pakistan Super League 2026. Chasing a modest target of 130, Zalmi held their nerve in a pressure-filled contest to secure a memorable title triumph.
Early Setbacks, Strong Recovery
The chase did not begin smoothly for Zalmi, as they lost key batters including Babar Azam, Mohammad Haris, and Kusal Mendis early in the innings. However, a crucial partnership between Abdul Samad and Aaron Hardie steadied the innings and shifted momentum.
Hardie’s composed 56 off 39 balls, combined with Samad’s fluent 48 off 34 deliveries, ensured that Zalmi regained control and guided the team towards victory with confidence.
Hyderabad’s Collapse Turns the Game
Earlier, Hyderabad Kingsmen looked well-placed at 71/2, but a dramatic middle-order collapse derailed their innings. Losing four wickets for just two runs proved to be the turning point, halting their progress at a crucial stage.
Saim Ayub stood out with a fighting 54 off 50 balls, but lacked support from the other end. The failure to build partnerships in the latter stages ultimately cost Hyderabad a stronger total.
Bowlers Set the Foundation
Zalmi’s bowlers played a decisive role in restricting Hyderabad to a manageable score. Aaron Hardie led the charge with an impressive 4/27, while Nahid Rana chipped in with 2/22.

Sufiyan Muqeem also made a key impact, delivering tight spells that kept the scoring in check and triggered the crucial collapse.
Standout Performers of the Season
Despite a quiet outing in the final, captain Babar Azam was instrumental throughout the tournament, amassing 588 runs at an average of 73 and a strike rate of 145, including two centuries. His consistency laid the foundation for Zalmi’s successful campaign.
Sufiyan Muqeem also emerged as a game-changer, claiming 22 wickets in 14 matches at an average of 14, troubling batters with his effective spin bowling.
A Season to Remember
Peshawar Zalmi’s journey in PSL 2026 was marked by consistency and resilience. The team lost just one match during the season and delivered strong performances with both bat and ball. Their ability to handle pressure in the final ultimately defined their championship-winning campaign.
With this victory, Zalmi not only secured the title but also reinforced their reputation as one of the most balanced and formidable teams in the league.
